Secondary Lesson Plans

01

The overall big idea of this lesson is reflection, surrealism, and symbolism. It will address the creative process behind designing an original piece of surrealist art. Students will have the opportunity to communicate and express a symbolic idea about their inner world. The “Surrealist Self-reflections” encourages students to deeply reflect on their identity and make connections in order to convey a personal message. This lesson grants students the opportunity to generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and artwork.

02

The project “Happy Accidents” addresses the acceptance of making mistakes during the artmaking process. Additionally, it will stress the importance that art has various styles and is more than realism and can be imperfect. “Happy Accidents” is based on the acceptance of failure and how mistakes give you the opportunity to grow and create. Allowing failure provides a valuable lesson that will aid them in their future artmaking process, helping them identify their areas of strengths and weaknesses.

03

“Silhouette Paintings” emphasizes the importance of our home and community while understanding how the principles of art and elements of design allow artists to convey meaning and messages in their art. This lesson aims to help students to understand the significance of their immediate environment and their role within it.
